The Sidewinder – 18mph and a sneaky predator

The sidewinder is a small pale-colored desert rattlesnake (Crotalus cerastes) found in the southwestern U.S. that moves by thrusting its body diagonally forward in a series of flat S-shaped curves. Reaching speeds up to 18mph, the sidewinder slithers rapidly along the desert dunes. The way it buries itself in the sand is even more amazing as this lizard soon discovers to its cost.
